My name is Mohamed Ata Omar. I was born and raised in Cairo. I work mainly as an Guide Egyptologist for Dutch and Flemish guests who are visiting Egypt. In my younger days I played for F.C. Den Bosch (Holland) as a professional football player. I studied at the university in Amsterdam and learned very quickly the Dutch language. I am your Egyptian Guide and Egyptologist. Welcome on my website. Please enjoy its contents and my passion for Egyptology and the modern history of Egypt. Recently I have modernized the layout of my website with iWeb. With much pride I can announce the translation of my book in English called 'Egypt, from past to present'. The Second Edition. The Dutch edition was already sold out after six months time and more than 3.000 copies found their way to Dutch and Flemish readers who enjoyed its contents and photographs very much.

My book is divided in logical chapters which are describing all major historical sites and temples from Cairo to Abu Simbel. The many photographs are very bright and razor-sharp. I dedicated three chapters with explanations of the curse of the pharaoh, the new library of Alexandria and the Nubian museum in Aswan.

Welcome in Egypt (continuation)

Before I went to Holland I was already graduated at the faculty Egyptology in Cairo after 4 years of intensive study. I followed one year extra courses about History & Tourism. I earned my official license as an Guide Egyptologist after a very strict and harsh examination before members from the official board of the Ministry of Tourism. I learned also the Hebrew language. I studied also in Leuven (Belgium) at the university. From 1989 on I guided mainly Dutch and Flemish guests in Egypt. When I guide my guests in Egypt my main goal is to give an introduction to the fascinating history of my country Egypt. I always start with a brief explanation about the different dynasties and the complicated world of Ancient Egyptian gods. I respect the fact that my guests are on holiday and do not want a constant lecture from dawn till sunset. I created a balance between lectures and light entertainment. I am always prepared to answer all your questions because I believe strongly in a exchange between different cultures. As a citizen of the world I can always learn from other points of view and different opinions. At present I live in Cairo near the football stadium in Nasser City. My passion besides Egyptology is computers and the internet. This is in a nutshell my introduction to my website as a citizen of the world, a devote Muslim and a peaceful human being who is never to old to learn new things and explore new horizons and experiences.

When I guide large groups in the temples and sites it happens sometimes that some members of my group get separated. I can produce a unique and very special whistle tune between my teeth that my guests immediately recognize. No other Egyptian guide ever duplicated my very special whistle tune.
